The project is located in a very weak urban territory, which found itself in an precarious balance between the minute system of the garden city and the macro system of industrial sheds, these last ones composed by big fenced areas detached from the city fabric and life.
In between those two urban typologies, the block and the garden city, the project has looked for a new and hybrid balance: on one side the block gives shape to the urban fabric and defines the city form, on the other side the open system, typical of the garden city, guarantees the continuity of the city ground avoiding the introverted scheme of the fences areas, thus enhancing the use and the role of public space.
The masterplan, which involves all the four areas of intervention, is thus conceived as a transitional moment between those two different realities: the typological choice of having a basement on one or two floors – which hosts different programs: commercial, workshop and atelier – is thus coherent with this choice: it gives a form to the city fabric but in the meanwhile it identifies an elevated open public space, a new meeting place for the local community.
