The project consists of the design of a new ski resort on the Northern slope of the Etna volcano, replacing the one that was destroyed by the eruption in 2000. The envisioned program also contains retail spaces and an open parking area.
The ski resort proposal evolved from our analysis of the extremely severe and provocative site geography,
its geometry was defined by the combination of stratified lines, rifts, faults and flows that evolves over time. This geography charts the succession of temporary conditions of equilibrium and variable timeframes: each of these moments contains seeds for mutation and change. The project is intended to measure itself according to this geography without introducing artificial elements. This project redraws a map with new markings, fractures, and fault lines, from which a severe, serial, crystalline subterranean form emerges. Similar to the morphogenetic process of crystal formation, the forces that determine the new shapes carry their own internal order and intrinsic characteristics of the material itself, resulting in a material capable of modeling regular geometric patterns.
