Expo 2015

Both the projects for Cardo and Palazzo Italia follows the principles on which is based the Expo 2015 Masterplan, in other words are coherent with the aim of creating an open and accessibile structure, in which open and interior spaces create a continuous system of discovering and learning.

Both the Cardo and Palazzo Italia are thus conceived as porous structures, as devices able to create spatial sequences able to enhance the pedestrian usability of the entire Masterplan.

Palazzo Italia is an open building suspended on a wide covered square accessible on each side from the Cardo and the Piazza d’Acqua; opened on the four corners, crossed by natural light, Palazzo Italia is conceived as a threeshold between interior and exterior.

Based on the dimensions and the geometrical proportions of the area of intervention, Palazzo Italia, similar to a tent which protects the interior space, with its strong identity, its geometrically perfect and harmonius proportions trasmits the capacity of human beings of shaping a better worlds.

In some sense the project for Palazzo Italia and, in a different way, the structures for the Cardo, expresses the same positive tension towards the future of the Leonardo machines and of some italian artistic reasearches of the ’60 and ’70. Palazzo Italia gives shape to a certain idea of creativity which only Italy is able to express, based on research, rigour, technical experimentation and elegance.
